Prelim course: finished. HSC course: start! I know you've just finished your exam, but there isn't time to cool off and relax - not yet. Today we'll be starting to formally study project management, which is the set of activities needed to create, adjust and maintain any information system. The larger the system, the more complex management activities are required; however, even very small systems often go through well-defined steps before they are released to the public.
  1. Outline the actual steps involved in the completion of a large school-related project that you are involved in (academic or co-curricular).
  2. Identify any weaknesses with this approach, and (given an ideal situation) propose strategies to counter these weaknesses.
  3. Outline the five steps of the "system development life cycle".
  4. Explain, with an example, why systems go through life "cycles".
  5. Define a deliverable.
  6. Propose methods that you would use for the first stage of the SDLC if you had to create or adjust the following systems:
    • School-wide computer network
    • Late arrivals system
    • Student-issue laptops
    • 3-on-3 soccer registration
    • Information system of your choice
