9IPT: Project Management Case Study

posted Nov 5, 2012, 12:58 PM by Eddie Woo
As I mentioned yesterday, you have a case study to do by yourselves today. Please pair up and complete the following tasks:
  1. Read "How Google's Self-Driving Car Works". Identify all the kinds of data and information technology used by one of Google's computer-controlled cars.
  2. Explain why driving in traffic is such a difficult problem for automated systems to handle.
  3. Read "All Aboard the Robotic Road Train". Describe the concept of semi-autonomous cars in a 'platoon' or 'road train', and explain the benefits and risks that would exist if it were introduced into mainstream traffic.
  4. From a project management perspective, justify the development of semi-autonomous driving systems when autonomous driving systems already exist.
  5. Construct an information system diagram to represent the platoon system designed by Volvo.
  6. Outline the project management challenges that were faced during the development of this system, and (where applicable) the methods that were used to overcome these challenges.
