Data Dictionaries: Selecting Data Types

posted Nov 10, 2010, 12:13 PM by Eddie Woo
This post is actually late - it refers to the lesson we had on Monday 8 November. I thought I would post it up so that you could have a record of what we actually did on the day.

Normal dictionaries give you a list of the kinds of words that you can use in a language. Data dictionaries, similarly, give you a list of the kinds of data that you can store in a database.
  1. Describe the six main numerical data types, with reference to their unique characteristics.
  2. Describe the text (character) and binary large object data types.
  3. Consider a simplified version of your Facebook profile as a flat-file database. Construct a basic data dictionary for this database.
