Exam Review + Copyright

Today's double, we'll be looking at your exam and then moving onto some of the social and ethical issues connected to multimedia. 
  1. As usual, record some pointers as we go through the answers for the exam, taking note of the particular spots that you had trouble with. Ask questions as we go through if you want to clarify anything. We did reasonably well on this exam - our average improved quite a bit! 

  2. In pairs, come up with your own definition of copyright and state what you think the purpose of copyright law is.

  3. Watch the following videos: 
  4. Identify the ways that copyright law applies to each of the following points:
    • Content is collected from copyrighted sources with a microphone
    • JavaScript to play audio files is obtained and modified from a website with similar functions
    • Various software products are used to process the multimedia
    • Video and audio was compressed using codecs written by others

  5. Outline the amendments that have been made to the Copyright Act due to the nature of software, data and information.

  6. Discuss the ways in which copyright infringement and its countermeasures have changed in the age of digital multimedia.
