Happy Holidays for 2011!

posted Dec 19, 2011, 3:33 PM by Eddie Woo
While all of you students are enjoying your summer break already (though looking out the window right now, you could hardly call it a 'summer' break), us teachers have actually been busy since Friday doing the last school development days for the year. Today is actually the last one for the year - and then holidays really begin for all of us! So it seems fitting to write a note today to finish off the year.

Dear 7K, even though I only saw you once a week (sometimes not even that!) throughout the year, I enjoyed teaching every last lesson (even the very last one where I still made you work for 20 minutes!). Well done on finishing your first year of high school - next year will be a lot more comfortable, I promise!

Dear 8T, we both knew from the beginning that this year would be an interesting experience. You did a good job learning everything while juggling Mrs. Prasad and I at the same time. If you ever have a surd party, make sure you invite me (though I don't make any promises about trying to start a conversation with any of you irrational types!).

Dear 9IPT, I hope you've relished your first foray into an HSC subject. Seeing as this is the first time I've ever taught your grade, I had lots of fun actually getting to know all of you and all of your quirky habits (e.g. Victor and his anger management issues with computers). The pace quickens next year - have a good rest over Christmas, you'll need it!

Dear 10IPT, it's been a crazy ride over the last couple of years. I've pushed you to your limits - I think in Term 1 this year, you could hardly breathe with all of the assessments I put you through - but I think you can all agree that it was all worth it in the end. We ridiculous amounts of fun. I have a sneaking suspicion that you actually probably learnt some stuff (for the rest of your life, when you hear the words "social", "ethical" or "issues", you will immediately think of 'privacy', 'bias' and 'data integrity'). And to top it all off, your academic achievement was astounding - both as a class and individually. You guys ate the course for breakfast and got up from the table looking for more. That's exactly what you'll get, by the way - I look forward to seeing all of you in your white shirts next year!

Dear 12M8, I promised you that I would work hard for you and asked that you would do the same in return. You didn't disappoint. Thank you for putting sincere effort into something that I know you may not like. You will reap the benefits - both in the marks you achieved (6 Band 6s and 6 Band 5s - very tidy for the 'bottom class'!) and in the perseverance you developed. You are all headed toward success in different places and I'm so proud of the fact that I get to say I contributed a little to your journey. All the best for your next chapter in life - and don't forget to come back and visit!

To finish, for those who are interested, here's my timetable for next year. All my technology classes will be in T1.5 and all my maths classes will be in C2.4 (a home room at last!).

That's all from me - merry Christmas everyone!

Mr. Woo
