A couple of years ago, someone drew this on the chalkboard of the room where I took roll call. My name has been the subject of many puns since then, but this one always stuck in my mind because I thought to myself, "They might be onto something with this one." I've always thought of video as a very difficult medium to work with - editing them has always seemed like such an arduous task and not always worth the effort.

But in recent years, video production has become significantly easier. Also, in recent times I've been presented with opportunities to use the medium in a way that really made sense - to respond to questions we receive at ISCF question-and-answer panels where we never ever have enough time to answer everything that people ask (even when we have super-extra extended lunchtimes). So here we go! Presenting: WooTube. (You may have already noticed the link on the sidebar on the left.)

I'll admit it's pretty bare at the moment - I suppose that's always the way it is when things get started. I've only got three videos on there, and two of them are quite old (one is me getting my head shaved last year, and the other is me explaining how to work through a particular kind of question in polynomials).

Those of you who have known me for a while realise that I often have a lot of pet projects that never seem to get off the ground. I've become increasingly convinced that the main reason for this is that I want to get things just right, I want them done to a particular standard, and because I don't actually have the time to make it nice and professional it never gets done. There's a time for high quality work, but not when the bar is so high that it stops you from getting anything done. So for that reason, all of these videos will be quite rough. I don't plan to edit them and I try to take the video in one take even if I make mistakes. I hope these videos are still helpful to people even though they aren't particularly polished.
