In education, league tables compare the academic achievements of different institutions.
 For  Against
The tests used to assess and rank the schools are narrow and does not assess the full range of literacy and numeracy skills of students, thus the data may not be accurate or integrous. [sp?]
Students in lower ranking schools are demoralised as privacy may be breached
The funding used to rank the schools could be actually used to help the disadvantaged schools
The information released in the form of league tables can mislead the population by publishing misleading information or by stereotyping
League tables are not necessary as government and education departments already have detailed information on the performance of schools.
