Summary x)

In Morning Class.. (and today I was EARLY by 10 minutes, personal record x)
PROCESSING
=> is the process that actually ALTERS the data.
=> There are two types of basic processing
  1. Updating
e.g. changing roll class from 8L to 9K
antivirus software from old to new
  2. Editing and Manipulating
e.g. a camera (see book) basically light enters camera, comes out as 'dots' (pixels) then is compressed (JPG) and stored into memory card.
METHODS OF PROCESSING
  • Centralised - happening in one place
                     - e.g. (CPU)
  • Parallel      - e.g.Google
                             WETA Digital special effect creator
                     - missing defintion
  • Distributed  - e.g. SETI@home
                              folding@ home
                     - missing defintion

In Period 8...
TRANSMITTING and RECEIVING:
When data flows from a/n:
  • Non Information System to an Information System   ~ collecting
  • Information System to an Information System          ~ transmitting
  • Information System on a Non-Information System    ~ displaying

Four Important Features (?)
  1. Direction
    • duplex - two directions
    • simplex - one direction
  2. Protocol
    • an agreed upon set of rules
    • e.g. language - a common way of communicating (body language)
  3. Errors
    • detection - is actually quite hard
    • correction
  4. Security
    • more so "processing"
