10 Hours to go!

posted Aug 16, 2012, 5:38 AM by Unknown user   [ updated Aug 16, 2012, 6:24 AM ]

OMG! ONLY 10 HOURS REMAINING! Time is creeping up on us! I am trying to stay away alongside Ann and Conny to try and finish our website. The past few days I have been frantically trying to make the slideshow because if I made one mistake I kind of had to like start again so it was very difficult. I used a website called Kizoa and it lagged a lot so it was very frustrating! Anyway, we are nearly at the end of our assignment and it is actually kind of exciting... maybe! Today we have all worked on everything! Ann worked on the business spreadsheet, I worked on the design report and Conny helped us both. The business spreadsheet and the design report were the groups main tasks and they were also the most difficult. The 2000 word design report was very hard to write as it had to be very very long. Our website has actually come together! We would have never though we could actually make like a legit website (although the company isn't real). We have definitely learnt a lot through this assignment.

My lord. Only 13 hours left to go. I remember the days when I did my first post and worried about sounding like a weirdo. I remember the website starting of with the theme of black and red and being confused about how to change anything. Oh how my baby has grown (': The website is still looking pretty empty, but we don't want to give too much away to the public. But we don't want to wait too long to being uploading things onto our website. So we will probably start trickling our information onto the site. We don't want you to be so dazzled that your eyes can't handle it! Well this is probably one of my last posts in this register. Oh how I will miss you, dear register. I also hope I never have to write you again (:

Fourteenth with Four days to go!

WOW ITS NEARLY TIME!!! The whole morning I have been working on the slideshow which is going on the front page/home page of the website. I used a website called Kizoa (courtesy of Elaine), which allows you to make slideshows collages etc. I included pictures and prices if popular current games played by children/teenagers around our age. I feel the pictures are quite pixelated/blurry since I took small pictures and stretched them. That's something I could improve upon but i decided I would leave it since you have to redo the slideshow to replace the pictures.

Today I would also like to finish of my blog, so tomorrow we can put our whole website together like how we planned. I have got most of the blog together i would just like to add some more stuff. We have all been doing our work on google docs like we planned and in the end we will put them all on our cool as website! Its actually quite exciting- making your own website!

Pretty much the only thing I am proud of right now is my title since I forgot to post before )': BUT since the weeks are dwindling down, we are not writing as much as we did before and are just trying to refine things e.g. how to structure sentences better since we would like to sound professional but not too formal.

On Wednesday after grade sport we met up and talked about our project. I put forward the idea of having some of the games that the SDD students made uploaded to our site, as users uploading games. We all became really excited, but then discovered that their games are still a work in progress. Shoot. Anyway during this we realised that if users were going to be able to upload or send games to their friends, we would need some sort of screening process in case there are some.... indelicate games (Ann's words).

Two more weeks to go! We are all a little concerned if our joint work is good enough, since it is supposed to be something that more than one person is able to achieve. Even so, I am very happy about the work we have done. It is all in Google Docs waiting to be approved by all of us and once we are done, it shall be put up on our beautiful website, courtesy of Vishni. We are all a little regretful about not being able to post a game on our website, but if we as a group tried to make a game, it would probably turn out to be a little awful. And may just ruin the site.

The Twelve Days of Gaming!

Today and this past week (since I forgot to do a post), I have been working on the blog!
-'game of the week'- the game of the week will be on sale or even free and all the games will be rated or you can give your own rating.
- Game Makers favourite games- which includes the most recommended games by staff.
We will also send out emails of updates to promote our games and website. We may even give out emails for notifications.
- New games this week- which will include games that have been recently added or made.
- Games with the highest ratings by you(the people who plays games on the site)
- New game categories that we might introduce- we will organise the games into categories like action, puzzle, adventure, mystery, kids, girls etc.
- Most popular games- we will have a counter that keeps track of how many times people have played that game(like the view on youtube) and people can vote for their favourite games on our weekly survey/poll that will be sent by email.

Well I did a little of work on our project yesterday but forgot to post! Whoops! So basically I did a little more on the Design Report and am waiting for feedback from my fellow peerees. :D I tried to think of some more information for innovating with technology, but I couldn't come up with much besides including Xbox and PlayStation for advertising and maybe even create a partnership. We continued to work on the biography of the employees because frankly, it is the most fun bit of the project. You get to create whatever you like. For example, you could make the IT Technician, Bob Lob, a janitor, and then be caught in a near death experience which motivates him to become an IT Technician. Cool huh!

After being alloted around about a period to work on our group assignemnts... WHICH IS ONLY THREE AND A BIT WEEKS LEFT, we decided we really needed to get a fast move on our progress ohoho. SO we split the tasks but we still talked to each other and make comments critiquing in a good way.
I spent some time on the visual aspects of our group assignment. This included the group logo (which was created with various online logo generators) and some fiddling around on the the group website. WHICH NOONE CAN SEE AHAHAH.
Ahem. It's actually getting quite techy, and seeing as none of our group members are talented in that particular field, we decided to resort to google to provide us the infomation to continue :D
I generated many logo's and they were all inspected by the other two memebrs. The ones that were cool are now saved onto my usb for later editing and such. :D

Nine, the Time to Redesign!

We will earn most of our profits by selling games/apps online. Once someone has purchased an app they can play it as much as they like. The more apps they buy at one time they may be able to get a discount. When they sign-up to get an account they will have to register a credit card number whether it is theirs or their parents- (parent consent will be asked for children under 18 years). If people make their own game and send it to us( admin), we can test if it is suitable and put it up on the site for other people to buy and play. Obviously these games made by customers will be made cheaper, but the person who made the game will get a few free games or a share of the profit we came of his game, or a gift-card/voucher.

Don't hate on the eight!

Today, I am planning on making progress with the Design Report and then moving with "How We Innovate With Technology". I will have to consider the changes we have made to our project, like our logo, for the design report.

For the technology, we are trying to consider technology that would be most suited for the age demographic we are trying to appeal to.

We have decided that we could also be like OpenFeint, which would promote our site and in return the free games we provide could have a short advertisement in the beginning, which would provide a short snippet in which the player could actually play the game, making it better and more fun for the user.

We also attempted to decide on the employees necessary, but we got carried away and spent most of our time deciding the colourful backgrounds of our employees.

For a while, we tried to help Ann with the logo, trying to make it suitable for both girls and boys, from young to old. Which is quite difficult. Especially with Ann. In the end, we decided to use a website which would help us create the logo, instead of Ann hand making it, which was the original plan.

Just because it's the holidays, it doesn't mean work isn't going to be done!
We've given thought into how the biography on the various occupations, and how it's going to be set out.
Also the group logo has been thought about, and we've decided to go simple instead of the previous thoughts we've had.
Also wouldn't it be cool if the logo changed every so often according to special events or something? Or the end users could submit ideas of their own in a chance for it to be displayed for a certain period of time. This also earns them ClickIt points :D
We're also thinking of meeting up someday in this holiday to further discuss the various aspects in our website as we want to keep it as simple as possible without confusing or boring the users.

Profit shouldn't be an issue with the amount of merchandise that is going to be sold (hopefully) and we can display ads on our page for our website to further gain income.
We're also conducting further research into the possible games we could add onto the page and as for the setup we've also played/experimented around during class and our own free time.
