Major Project Register

Finishing the site off

posted Jun 19, 2013, 8:27 PM by Samuel Chu   [ updated Jun 19, 2013, 9:10 PM ]

I need to try and embed audio in my website, as this is the media form that is the least integrated into my website.
I have also worked on the project report, which is now due next term.
I have to try and squeeze more words out of the report.

That's all for now

EDIT: Links on the website have also been edited for a better user experience, removing much of the need for file download.

Rescheduling

Mr Woo told us that the report was now due on the first week of Term 3, thereby giving us an extension.

That is good for me, but the final product is still due on the 27/6/13- so I have to finish editing and refining.

Receiving feedback from Mr Woo

posted Jun 17, 2013, 4:20 PM by Samuel Chu   [ updated Jun 17, 2013, 4:20 PM ]

Today I received feedback from Mr Woo about my prototype. He mentioned that my user experience was a bit jarring, as there were so many different elements to individually download and play. He recommended better integration of multimedia throughout the website.

I understand this problem, and I'll have to do a bit more work.

Fixing and improving

posted Jun 14, 2013, 10:55 PM by Samuel Chu

I was able to continue improving on the website's functionality and was also able to solve user problems.
The image that one user said was of poor quality (#awful) has been fixed, with the black area of the image being removed and the image refocused. New YouTube videos were added to the pages "The Show", "Further planning" and "Investigation". These videos had already been filmed before the prototyping stage completion, and one of them was attached as a file, but they were then edited to remove imperfections before adding onto the website. The IPT recording that I included on "The Show" was also highlighted with a mention in the body paragraph. In some areas, including "Investigation" and "Tech Tracking", the storyline was edited to give a better flow and to fill up gaps in the story and inconsistencies. Other spelling and linking issues were also fixed.

That's all for now.

Continuing on...

The prototyping stage has passed. Feedback for my website prototype was received, and it was mostly positive, complimenting the story line and use of multimedia, and this was handed in along with the prototype. But there were negatives, and these will be fixed throughout the implementation period, along with the general improvement of existing multimedia.

These negatives included:
- the lack of a website file directory (I removed it to make it look like a storybook but apparently if you closed the browser, you would have to go through the story again)- this was a common concern and I also suggested adding back links to all the pages to make it easier to navigate.
-General colouring and appearance issues (poor quality images, hyperlink colouring, fonts)- will be solved over the period
-Better multimedia - will be improved over the period
-Other issues involving file location and storyline- will be improved.

I was able to install a file directory on the home page today and add back hyperlinks on each page to make it easier to navigate. The font was changed from Normal to Georgia, keeping the font consistent from the title and changing the entire feel of the page. I was also able to change the colour of the hyperlinks from green to grey to rectify a trialler's problem. On the "The End" page, font was also edited to change the feel of that part of the story.

That's all for now.

About face

posted May 25, 2013, 2:35 AM by Samuel Chu

I decided to make a website as a back up, utilising all my videos and images put in my video. I may use this instead of my video, which looks un-professional, in my opinion.

The story is more composed in a website compared to my video and can flow as well.
Now for feedback!

Keeping on going

posted May 22, 2013, 9:14 PM by Samuel Chu

I have been able to put together a video. It mainly consists of screen recordings using Debut (it was on the laptop), self filmed videos and other related images. This is all put together using WLMM (Adobe lags on my laptop). I need to obtain feedback from people, but I have composed a feedback form, so I need to finish the video by Sunday to get feedback.

Panic

posted May 13, 2013, 7:55 PM by Samuel Chu

I am trying to finish off my prototype, developing the script and creating a new webpage to contain evidence. It is called "TRBS Evidence" and it uses Google Sites. I have to start filming video required and I have to put it together. I may also need to find YouTube videos of guests being harassed. I also need to put the video together in two weeks! I have been able to add content to the website, but it is hard keeping continutity in the story.
This is really annoying.
And to add onto this, I also have half yearlies coming up.

Long time no talk...

posted May 1, 2013, 5:45 PM by Samuel Chu

I have not posted in a long time because of other more pressing issues.
As these tasks have now been completed, I can dedicate more time to the IPT major project.
I have continued to edit my websites, and am trying to maintain electronic continuity in the story.
A YouTube account has been set up to complement the story and to post videos.
I may make a video to give closure to the story, but if all else fails, I will stick to an ecosystem of websites.

That's all for now.

Exploring the options

posted Mar 21, 2013, 1:17 AM by Samuel Chu   [ updated Mar 21, 2013, 1:18 AM ]

I have continued to work on my major project over the past week, trying to keep my story accurate and up to date.

I have started to design a website devoted to the mystery, and either that or a possible video will be the backbone for my system. This website has utilised the Weebly free website hosting service at weebly.com and the professional design and functionality the service brings will be appropriate for what I need to use. I have also been updating the Google Site that the TV personality utilises as well.

I will have to start creating video and audio to fit into parts of a video and maybe a website, so I better get cracking!

That's all for now.
