Tharsini's Major Project Register

Final Product Finished

posted Jun 29, 2013, 1:54 AM by Tharsini Urutherakumar

So, yay i finished! so basically it was pretty much editing - and making sure all the audio fitted with the images. Next I have to do my documentation which i have the holidays to do :)

So, this will be a post for everything i have done for the past two days.
So i have actually finalised my website - and all i need to do is publish it. This included adding voiceovers, changing the layout of some of the pages and adding some more videos. I also added several slideshows and just attempted to make the website more aesthetically pleasing. But the major change to the website was the addition of crime scene #2, so this was the murder of Sierra Prakash and i added information about her death, interviews with her daughter and a voiceover of her screaming before her death.
I am also currently finishing my video. So i filmed a lot more scenes including crime scene #2 and i have been editing as i go, rather than filming everything and leaving the bulk editing at the end. I found this easier as it meant that if i found a scene to have lacking audio or quality i had the option of reshooting it. I also wrote on my whiteboard a sort of case summary and that will be used in the final scene that i shall film today.
Hopefully i can finish! fingers crossed :)

Marking Rubric

posted Jun 24, 2013, 3:27 PM by Tharsini Urutherakumar

So today, in the morning class we recieved the marking rubric and it was as always extremely helpful as it made sure you would be ontrack and help you slightly change or add more information into your product.
FInal product
  • Demonstrates original and creative use of appropriate software: This basically meant that you had to try and add different kinds of options to your software. For e.g. rather than using a pre-set template you should try and create your own. This was pretty interesting, as i never thought of exploring my software but i realised that i had infact explored it unintentionally. So basically i used a blank template (mainly because i didnt like the other templates and those ones did not suit my mystery idea), i also explored the options that wix could do as i found it really interesting. However when it came to videos i basically did nothing-so need to you know experiment with video editing software
  • System employs all media types substantially: Are all the multimedia types in the system (text and audio are the hardest). However, the media types have to necessary and you cant just put in a media type for the sake of putting it - this was interesting as it raised the important question: if you took it away, would you lose something out of the product? This was interesting as i realised i had used all of the media types except animation - as i thought creating an animation would be too difficult. However when i asked Mr Woo today, he told me that slideshow counted as an animation and that creating just a slideshow would be sufficient for the category, so yay!
  • Showcases unique strengths of each media type - this basically means that you have to use the media type for the reason it was created e.g. music has a unique strength of creating an atmosphere e.g. creepy
  • Suitable balance between breadth of content and level of details - Have you used your time efficiently?
  • Content effectively conveys a story with mystery elements - is the story good? This was interesting as when i first created the website i thought my story was pretty good as it even scared me but now i had to cut down my ideas a lot so now i really need to work on making my project as a whole maybe not scary but interesting.
  • Exhibits multiple levels of refinement that reflect Spiral development approach This basically means that the quality of the product must improve over time (Spiral). This means that everything basically has to accurate e.g. all the audio should be good quality, links link the the right page, no spelling images (QUALITY). This is pretty important as it reflects the proffesionalism of the project.
  • Argues for selection of components present in final product Questions that need to be asked in this section: Have you picked each media type and put it in an appropriate place, have you changed your website based on your feedback. For this part of the marking criteria, i think my prototype document will come into great use!
  • Outline the difficulties associated with: Technological feasibility (camera angles, animation hard to incorporate) Operational feasibility (how well does it fit into the environment, where do the users have challenges using my product) Schedule feasibility (what problems did you experience with keeping to the schedule and how it impact the progress positively or negatively)
  • Evaluates project management techniques in development in relation to system design: story boarding system production: team of people who answered the survey - was it helpful? Why or why not? Evaluate make a valued judgement e.g. this is a really useful project register - gannt chart unrealist. E.g. these were useful - these weren't why?

Weekend work

posted Jun 23, 2013, 10:00 PM by Tharsini Urutherakumar   [ updated Jun 23, 2013, 10:00 PM ]

So, this is a post about the major work i did on the weekend:
  • reshot crime scene 1 so that it was in better quality, better light, better audio. (this was the crime scene in the prototype)
  • Shot videos of tharsini
  • Started introduction part with matching audio to help enhance the atmosphere
  • Found creepy music that could be used for the flashbacks
  • changed layout so that it was more aesthetically pleasing and easier for users
  • question: not sure whether to make the crime scene pages scattered or should i make it systematic. If the crime scene page is scattered it is basically the layout that i have write now, but i feel like its a bit hard for users to read and as i will add more media types it will make it even more confusing. If i make the crime scene page systematic all the voiceovers and images will be in one location.
So when i get home today im going to finish the video. The website is basically done as i only have to shoot two blogs and maybe one final video to sum up the whole case.

So good news has arrived as Mr woo made a mistake on the assignment sheet and hence our assignment is due in two fragments. This means that our video and website will be due on the next Thursday, whilst the documentation will be due on the Thursday of next term. YAY good news!

So I need to get a move on. Firstly, I have decided to finish all my video blogs first – I have decided to do this as it is easy and I can quickly add it to the website and have the blogging section of the website finished and over with. Furthermore, I realised that I cannot finish my website until I finish my filming as the photos and videos of the crime scenes will have to be incorporated into the crime scene pages.

So my video, as I mentioned before, I have changed the plotline a little to suit me more. This meant reducing the number of actors (there is no longer a little sister) and also shortening the number of crime scenes before the detective finds the murderer. So today, I have decided that I will reshoot crime scene number 1 using the users’ feedback to make it more professional and suitable for a movie. I also thought of another idea to put in the film. The idea came to me when I was watching criminal minds and I saw that they had a board where they displayed all their information about the crimes. As I have a large whiteboard I was thinking I could glutack photos of crime scenes – connect them together with string and write information around them. I could the film the detective using a stick (pointer) going through all these information. I have decided to do a long version of this and a short version. The long version will go on the website under the “clueless case” page whilst the short one will go in the video.

That’s all for now! Will talk to you later today once I get some work done!

Getting organised

posted Jun 16, 2013, 4:34 AM by Tharsini Urutherakumar

So before, i do a massive work on ipt, i want to firstly begin organising myself and seeing where i want to go with my video, with my feedback in hand.
Documentation i already finished about half of it but i realised i can't finish the other half until i finish at least most if not all of my video/website
Video: so i did the minor edits such as the changing of the position on the actual website e.t.c
but the rest of the feedback i got - i lumped together in a to remember list which i printed out so i could keep near me while i filmed :D
Website: i have decided to add an additional page called the Clueless case and it will basically be a summary of the whole case as the who are we page doesn't fully describe this particular case, and this page will hopefully clear up a bit of the confusion about the case as a whole.

Back from a Hiatus

So im back and i have handed in my prototype yay! so i want to get a start on my documentation!
Firstly, i asked Mr Woo several questions relating to the documentation.
These are my findings:
  • Project management techniques: include Spiral approach, gannt chant, project register
  • Evaluating Project management techniques involves assessing how well you used the particular technique e.g. gannt chart was ignored or it helped in making sure i was on task
  • Rationale for the multimedia system: includes audio, text, website (and you should mention why you chose that particular component)
using this information, i started on the rationale for the specific components and i finished on why i used audio, images, text and numerical, video and website. (all of this was about 503 words - which is pretty long) And as it is a 1500 word limit, im going to try and make it a little bit more condensed. I also want to figure out a way to add animation into my system. In my planning stage i stated that i would used it in my blog - but now im thinking i should use it in my video. Well i'll decide that a little later when i start making my video. Im thinking i could use it as an enactment of a murder e.g. how you killed them, though this may be hard to make
Well thats all for now! See you soon :D

FInal Prototype

So, today morning and yesterday night, I did the documentation that was required to be handed in with the prototype. Firstly, I printed off the raw survey from the google docs forms. This was really handy, as it collated all the data per question and gave me several graphs from which I could analyse and propose several changes. Firstly, I continued in my advantages and disadvantages chart. I found this too be really effective as from here I could pin point what I did well, and what I didn’t do so well. From here I made a list of changes and explained my justification for them. After that load of writing I realised I was done!

So, i acidentally forgot, to make a post yesterday!
But this is what i did, i actually got some surveys back today! i got so far 11 - so thats quite a bit that i needed to analyse
I basically read through them all first, some of them acutally had a lot of content that i could read, and get infromation from but the others were like one word sentences so that was dissappointing (i believe this responses were from the younger grades - as i didnt know them very well - and it was kinda awkward when asking them via facebook).
I grouped my responses in three like sections - response from the website, trailer video and concept.
i assorted into further categories, e.g. layout and made tables so that you could see advantages and disadvantages. So this would tell me what they liked, and what they didnt like.
Yup! so when i get home today - i will continue to do this! YAY!  :D

Final touches

So, after an intense 4hourish, i have basically finished! I have filmed all my parts, edited my video - though its a little short, but i just feel as if its a little unproffessional, other than that - im done!
I edited my survey, so that it included aspects of everything that i wanted to include!
I also, decided for my survey I would distribute it too 2girls, 2 boys per grade, as that would be a fair representation of the grade. I decided to distribute my survey through facebook, as they can do this in their own time and it also will be quicker!
Hopefully, they will finish them soon, and i can finish my assignment soon!
