Feedback- Prototype

posted Jun 18, 2013, 3:27 PM by Unknown user   [ updated Aug 5, 2013, 5:53 AM ]

So today after getting a bald head for Shave for a Cure,i just got my prototype back and i got full marks. So it seems as though my prototype was accurate and constructive. Ann just asked me to be in her project. I feel so touched, she filmed me today.  Otherwise everything else is going well. I don't have a lot of time and i am trying my best to get stuff done.
The actual system seems to be going good. I also  have to make a facebook page for the advertisments of these Ruse Mysteries. I am laso now looking at my feed back and changing the design of the website accordingly. today, mr woo gave us time to work on it in class and i made a few changes to the HTMl code. This is where i am making my project:

Tik Tok, Tik Tok

A post hasn't been made for ages but that doesn't mean stuff hasn't happened. Plans have changed, designs have been altered and due dates have been altered. First of all our system is now due next Thursday on the 27th of June 2013. The documentation behind the project will be due in the first week back of next term probably on the Thursday. Since then a portotype with some certain documentation has been handed in Week 5 on the 30th of May.
After some serious thinking, the prototype was clearly made in the form of a powerpoint trying to display the format and layout of a website. Now that i have an extra two weeks on the documentation, i will keep this documentation postphoned till the the holidays. however, in the holidays i also have courses/camp for seven days. So i have to make sure that in the second week of the holidays, i stay on track and don't leave everything to the last day.
As for the website, through the tutorials i have been going very well and have added a lot to my original plan/design. Hwoever, just in case Dreamweaver doesn't work or something extreme. I asked Mr Woo to make a google sites partition for me so that i can insert some of the HTML code and try to make it work on system that i know more about and is easier to use.
I want to finish all the tutorial today and be able to make the whole website by Friday. I then have another camp on the weekend for term 2 Bivouac. So I won't be able to do much then but then after i comebaxck from the weekend i will work on improving and get user feedback onthe website. Then by Thursday it should hopefully be all done. Meanwhile, my time also have to be balanced as i have to create a similarly large project for SDD too. Handling both of those have been hard and the Software Design & Development game is due next week also. It has been hard to work on both, bnut i have to keep up. Right now since i am in morning class, i can't uload past posts that i have made and haven't uploaded but i will do that once home.
Otherwise, hopefully I can finish both on time and have a good website by the end of it.

Change of Ideas??

posted May 13, 2013, 7:59 PM by Unknown user   [ updated Aug 5, 2013, 5:55 AM ]

So Today, with the deadline approaching, i have decided to cut back onmy game idea. To make a website with videos and graphics and maybe incorporate a game in between. The knowledge and expertise required to make the whole mystery a game is hard to learn. So now i just have to decide on a name. And make the google sites version of it as an extension of our school intranet. The prototypes are due in 3 weeks and i need to get move along. I already have screen designs and video ideas. Its just the name i am waiting for. The Gantt chart will of course be behind. The prototyping stage is worth 40 marks and i need to make sure that my prototype has enough content and effort to achieve those 40 marks. I have to create surveys and collect data one i release the prototype so that i know how my prototype was received in the public. :)

Work, Work, Work

So for the last couple of days i have been working on learning the code. But recently i have been busy and its hard to work on it considerably to make a significant impact. I also have to learn similar code for SDD and i am working har don it but as i am going along i am also doing some further planning on my other options such as the film and website. Hopefully, i can stick with this game option though. I realised that exams are going to be in Week 4 of Term 2 and then there are HSC Assessments in Week 6 of Term 2. So i won't get a lot of time to work on it in the future.

Time Flies!!

Okay, it has been a while since my last post, but fear not. I have been doing a lot of work. My learning phase is going well but is slightly behind on schedule. I have this week to catch up on the language and graphic program. Otherwise, i have been doing intense thinking about the project and ideas are occurring to me rapidly. After looking at Agatha Christie books and shows in the holidays, i believe i could stage a few clues and hints to make this mystery very interesting.

A prototype is due very soon and with exams coming up, i don't have a lot of time to prepare the prototype. Hopefully, i can have the documentation finished before the end of the holidays, with the prototype being initially made by the end of the first week. Then after exams and during musical week i can finalise that part of the project. Meanwhile i also have refine my IPT notes and prepare for HSC assessments. I will post up sooner with all the ideas and how this week goes in terms of time management.

Busy, Busy, Busy :(

So in the past week, i haven't had a lot of time to further contemplate about this project. The current ideas as I wrote them in planning have been set into concrete. Time managment wise, i am in schedule with my Gantt Chart but i haven't thought of any new ideas. I will post up the planning documentation of my project sometime this week. We also recieved our planning stage back from Mr Woo but i will further analyse that later in the week when i have more time. Currently, i have fund it hard to keep up with the C++ manual.

Planning FInished

So it's 11pm and i have been through my project documentation several times. My progress over the weeknend was substantial and i managed to finish a majority of my documentation. I made a simple title page and then started the documentation. To gain further knowledge of the documentation i looked at my Year 9 Group Charter project that helped me out with the system purpose. The possible solutions involved two different plots and three different mediums of multimedia.

With the realistic schedule, I added a description regarding the tasks and stated the external sources of data within that description. The possible solution that i finally agreed on were:

Video Production- That uses live videos and pictures to portray the plot to the audience.

Website Construction- Involves feedback from the user and allows for the mystery to interact with the audience.
Graphic could again involve video and picture but could be less.

Game Creation- Creating game that is fusion of incredible graphics and involves interaction and ffedback from the users.

Thus i have picked the game as it involves a variety of multimedia concepts to effectively portray my mystery plot to the audience. The plot ideas were:

A murder on a train, with passengers providing accounts of what happened. Subtle pieces of evidence such as a weapons, hair strands etc are gradually found and suspects are narrowed. However, there are deeper clues that only point to one suspect. The audience follows the mystery through the perspective of a investigating detective.

A mysterious series of crimes occur on a beach called Pirate's Cove. The cove is named after J.B. Pirate a british navigator that explored the seven seas. The navigator found a chest of treasure on the island and now the people protect this treasure from being stolen. Diamonds are stolen from different houses and then the main treasure chest disappears. Who has stolen it? Accounts from witnesses are heard and then the characters have to roam the beach looking for clues using a metal detector. If something is found then they dig to discover what it is.

I preferred to use the second plot as i enjoyed it more and it would be more enticing for the audience. My purpose was as follows:

Throughout today i was just editing and fixing my project up. I actually helped other people more. such as Conny. Everyone was finding the purpose hard to state.

Anyway with that finished, printed off and bound. I just have to remember to hand it in tomorrow since i can't go to morning lesson as a result of KO cricket training. ;( Now Sleep, Sweet Sleep.

Questions Answered, Plans Finalised, Paperwork Initiated

posted Feb 21, 2013, 1:11 AM by Unknown user   [ updated Aug 5, 2013, 6:09 AM ]

Okay, so today I was able to ask Mr. Woo some questions regarding my possible ideas. The first question was:

"What happens if my plan does not go according to plan and I have to change ideas?" He said that it was fine as long as you have written those ideas in the possible solutions section of your planning stage.

I also wanted a marking rubric so that we knew what was essentially required within the planning stage. So hopefully he uploads that soon.

As for my plans, I want to try my best to make a exciting game involving a mystery. Within my planning section i will also include the idea of a video and the idea of a website linking clues. I will have to make these sections thorough so that if my initial plans do fail, I do have a concrete and detailed back up. The paperwork has started in terms of the purpose, SDLC and possible ideas etc. But with the marking rubric I will be able to see what is required further.

I also want to interview some people regarding what they expect from a mystery and what they would like from a game. I have made a couple of questions regarding this "survey" and i will post them up later. Of course i won't be able to get a lot of people to take part but some of the data that I do collect could be very useful to the making of my project. Anyway with all these thoughts floating around and a lot random typed up paperwork, I want to put together this whole planning stage over the weekend. So that on Monday morning lesson I can ask any questions or go through the paperwork with Mr. Woo.
